The movie Do the Math was a very interesting approach to trying to stop the ways that oil companies are ruling the world. The main purpose was supposed to be what can we do to save the Earth, however, throughout the movie it mostly appeared to be an attack the gas and oil leaders or business men. Yet, there was one quote I did particularly enjoy because it was not attacking anyone personally, it was only a call to action. It was said by Reverend Lennox Yearwood who exclaimed, “The reality of our movement is this: if we fail, the consequences are dire” (40:28). This was used as a way to convince those who may be on edge to try harder to decrease the effects they have on the Earth. It is sad, however, that the only ways that seems to get through to people is if they are able to blaim someone else for the problems and that if it will eventually effect themselves. Rarely will people join a movement for the benefits of other people. We live in a selfish world and I hope that the tactics that were used in this movie will strike a chord in enough people’s hearts to want to make a difference before it is too late.
